July 23, 2020 – The Lethbridge Girls Rock Camp Board of Directors is excited to announce a virtual version of camp this year! It won’t be the same to not be hanging out together all week, but we are pretty stoked about the nine very special workshops we have lined up to help AMPLIFY a variety of voices & ideas. We hope you can join us!

May 5, 2020 – well friends, yesterday the LGRC Board of Directors met (virtually) and made the difficult decision you all probably expected: physical camp will be cancelled for this summer 💔💔😓💔 this decision is not made lightly, but as we strive to be a leader in our community, we felt it was the best decision given our knowledge and understanding of the current situation. further, creating safe, accessible spaces (of all kinds) is always first and foremost in our minds. we are just not sure we will be able to guarantee that for all of our campers, volunteers, and supporters at this time.

but note how we said “physical camp”? we are already brainstorming different types of programming that we can provide at a distance to ensure we can still support our community and help youth be the rad peeps we know they are 💖💖💖 one of our Board members summed things up perfectly when they suggested that instead of looking at things as a “teaching opportunity,” now could be a time of “community opportunity” instead. so with that in mind, please reach out if you have an idea of what you’d like to see this summer from LGRC or have an idea for an at a distance workshop or just have some feedback about the decision in general

Each summer you could join us to learn an instrument, form a band, write a song, and participate in workshops (such as t-shirt screening and song writing). On the Saturday evening, you’ll take to the stage in our Camper Showcase to perform for your family and friends!

Lethbridge Girls Rock Camp runs a week-long day camp during the month of July, as well as smaller events throughout the year. We use music instruction and performance to help youth explore artistic and creative pursuits, at the same time building self-esteem, confidence, leadership and teamwork skills.

If you are a girl (transgender / cisgender) or a non-binary youth between the ages of 9 and 17, we’d love for you to join us at camp this summer! We are also looking for people to lend a hand in numerous ways. Please get in touch if you’d like to be a part of our team.

The camp is set-up to be organized and led by females (transgender / cisgender) which enables us to create positive female role models. We do welcome the support of allies and will have spaces for them to lend a hand, as well.

A big thank you is owed to Girls Rock Camp Vancouver, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls in Portland, and the Girls Rock Camp Alliance.

LGRC would like to acknowledge our programming takes place on the territory of the Niitsitapi, which includes the Siksika, the Kainai, and the Piikani Nations. Lethbridge is also home to the Stoney Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations, as well as Métis Nation of Alberta.
